After the Tawang controversy came to light, many types of debates and claims are being made by users on social media sites. At present, a screenshot of a Facebook post is being shared claiming that at the time of the Doklam dispute, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi were holding a secret meeting with the Chinese Ambassador, I am telling this only for your knowledge so that you can understand.”

A Twitter user named Sanju Yadav captioned the screenshot of the post, “What questions will the corrupt party ask, the voice is not even coming out of the throats of the looters of the National Herald, there is an excuse for not allowing Parliament to function.” Answer how much money the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation ate from China. Who are Chinese brokers asking questions to? The thieves made noise.”

@sohanlalsirvi tweeted a screenshot of the same post and captioned, “Where did the Congress get this itchy strategy to defeat the thief Kotwal, what is the point of meeting the Chinese ambassadors quietly without the help of Modiji and your father without patience?”

Similarly, many other users have also shared screenshots of this post.

Fact Check:

To find out the truth of the viral screenshot, the DFRAC team separated the two pictures on Google and did a reverse image search. We found a report published by Hindustan Times on January 05, 2018. It has been reported in this report that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has met the delegation of the Communist Party of China. According to the report, Rahul Gandhi himself tweeted in this regard, “Met with the CPC delegation led by Mr. Meng Jiangfeng, Member of the CPC Central Committee for meaningful exchange of ideas. ”

The second image is available on the Website of the Chinese Embassy since April 21, 2017. This picture was taken a day earlier i.e. on April 20, 2017, at the “Chinese Diaoyutai Food Festival” at the Taj Palace Hotel.

After initial denials from several Congress leaders, Rahul Gandhi himself tweeted on July 10, 2017, confirming that he had indeed met the Chinese ambassador.

Rahul Tweeted: “It’s my job to be informed on important issues. I met the Chinese ambassador, former NSA, Congress leaders from the Northeast, and the Ambassador of Bhutan.

The Congress leader’s meeting had created a political storm at the time and was covered by the mainstream media.

However, neither of the two pictures going viral has any connection with the Doklam standoff between Indian and Chinese troops.

Conclusion:

It is clear from this fact check of DFRAC that the two pictures taken on different occasions of Rahul Gandhi in the viral screenshot of the Facebook post have no connection with the Doklam dispute between India and China, so the claim being made by the users is misleading.

Claimed Reviewed: When the Doklam dispute was going on, Rahul Gandhi was holding a secret meeting with the Chinese envoy.
