Social media is a tool for spreading anti-India propaganda. Fake news and misleading information have been used for this. Such propaganda against India involves social media users from neighboring countries especially China, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. These users keep resorting to fake videos and pictures to create an anti-Muslim image of India.
A similar claim about India is going viral on social media. Sharing a picture of a child’s face covered in blood, a user wrote in Bengali language: “হে আল্লাহ্ জালীমদের হাত থেকে তুমি কাশ্মীরের মুসলমান মানুষ গুলোকে রক্ষা করো। “{oh god You from the hands of the wrongdoers Protect the Muslim people of Kashmir} (English Translation)
Fact Check:
To fact-check the viral photo, the DFRAC team first did a reverse image search of the photo. We found a report published on 25 March 2016 on the Turkish website “Daily Sabah”. The viral photo has been published in this report. According to this report, this photo is of a child from Syria, whose face can be clearly seen with fear.
This report states that- “photo taken by Syrian photographer Abd Doumany for AFP, a powerful image showing a deep well of emotion in the eyes of a wounded boy, encapsulating the horror of the last several years in Syria, was chosen Photo of the Year 2016 by the international jury of the Anadolu Agency’s (AA) 2nd Istanbul Photo Awards.”
Conclusion:
It is becoming clear from the fact check of DFRAC that the photo going viral is not of Kashmir in India but during the Syria attack in 2015. Hence, the claim of social media users is false.
Claim No.-2-
A news clipping has gone viral on social media with the claim that BJP workers attacked and thrashed Muslim students of Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University. “
(“BJP terrorists attacked Muslim students in Delhi’s Jawaharlal University while Indian police on the contrary filed a case against the Muslim students. Where is the end of this torture? O Allah protect the oppressed Muslims. Amen {English Translation} “)
Fact Check:
To fact-check the viral claim, we did a simple Google search. We got a report from ‘Aaj Tak’. According to this report, masked miscreants attacked students in JNU. Several students including JNU student union president Aishe Ghosh were injured in the attack.
Conclusion:
It is clear from the fact check of DFRAC that the claim of social media users is false, as the attack in JNU was not only on Muslim students but it was an attack on all students.
