A video is going viral on social media sites in which two white women are throwing food to some children. Sharing the video, a Facebook user named Adree Mar wrote, “This is the Queen herself throwing food to African kids like chicken Rest in Peace?!!…. ROT IN HELL ”
Similarly, another user shared the video with the caption, “This is the Queen herself throwing food to African kids like chicken and then you all have the audacity to post and type rip.”
Many social media users have shared this video with similar claims on their social media handles.
Using the InVid tool to divide them into different keyframes and applying a reverse image search on those keyframes DFRAC team found the video on a YouTube channel of iconauta. The video was uploaded on Nov 28, 2021, with a French title, that nearly translates into English as, “Light: Annamese children picking up coins in front of the Ladies’ Pagoda”.
Futher, we found the video on the Youtube channel of on History upscaled with the title, “1899 – Indochina, Vietnam – Women throwing coins for children to pick.”
Further, in the description of the video, it was written that, “Gabriel Veyre was an early film director and photographer born in France, but mainly known for his work in Mexico, Indochina and Morocco. The film was originally shot by Gabriel Veyre in French Indochina (current Vietnam) depicting two French women tossing Sapèques into a crowd of Annamite (Vietnamese) children.”
It is noteworthy that Queen Elizabeth was born on21 April, 1926 i.e more than two decades after the video was screened.
Furthermore, Marc Owen Jones, Associate Prof at HBKU, Qatari research university also wrote, “A lot of ppl are sharing a video of a woman in colonial garb throwing food at children saying it’s of the Queen feeding African children. It’s not. The actual video was filmed in 1900 by Gabriel Veyre in what is now Vietnam. 26 years before Queen was born.”
Therefore, it is clear from this Factcheck that the viral video is not of late Queen Elizabeth 2. Hence, the claim of social media users is misleading.
