An Image is widely going viral on social media sites claiming that the UPI payments will now be taxed.
The image states, “RBI have sought feedback from the public on the possibility of imposing charges on UPI payments, based upon the different amount band.
The RBI has asked for Feedback and Suggestions before October 3.”
People are sharing this image with lots of aggression towards the government of India and sharing it under different captions.
A user while sharing the image writes, “UPI payments are going to be taxed I Think that the GOI has lost its senses. #UPIpayment But only #crypto /#bitcoin can fixed it.”
Another user writes, “Now time to withdraw our cash from #ATM #UPI #upipayment.”
Fact Check:
To investigate the viral claim DFRAC desk used a simple Google search and found ascreenshot of tweet on the official Twitter account of the Ministry of Finance denying the viral Claim.
We also found reports from several news sites like Business Standard and Financial Express denying any such taxes on UPI transactions.
Conclusion:
With the clarification given by the Ministry of Finance itself, it is clear that the government of India is not planning on imposing any taxes on UPI transactions.
