A video of Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray is going viral on social media sites. It is being claimed that Uddhav is praising the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.
The video shows Thackeray addressing a large gathering where he says, “Do you know who that soldier was? Do you know his name? His name was Aurangzeb he sacrificed his life for his country. What are we to say? He was a Muslim and not ours?! No! He cried for my country, my motherland. The country for which people are ready to lay down their lives, whatever may it be his religion, he is ours. That is our Hindutva. That is our Hindutva…”
A user on Facebook writes, “If anyone does not understand the Marathi language, then I will tell that the Chief Minister of Maharashtra is saying that wearing a saffron cap does not make a Hindu, and the second point is saying that Aurangzeb was martyred for our country.*Blessed Shiv Sena chief (Translates Hindi)
Fact Check:
To investigate this viral video we firstly noticed a logo of TV9 Marathi we searched it using specific key frames and found the whole video uploaded on its official YouTube channel. It was uploaded on 8th June 2022.
In the speech, Thackeray was criticizing the BJP (Bharatiya Janta Party) while addressing a large gathering.
At 1:19 minutes he can be seen speaking the part of the speech that went viral on social media.
On listenting to the video we found that Thackeray was talking about Rifleman Aurangzeb who was with the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry and was posted with the 44 Rashtriya Rifles camp at Shadimarg in Shopian when he was abducted in June 2018. He was also awarded shaurya Chakra.
Conclusion:
DFRAC found that Thackeray was praising Rifleman Aurangzeb who was murdered in 2018 by terrorists.
