Fact Check: What did the MLA of Nepal say in criticism of Narendra Modi?

Ananaya Sharma May 28, 2022
MIS 2

A video is getting viral all over the social media sites in which the MLA of Nepal is claimed of criticizing Narendra Modi and his government.

In this video of 4 minutes, he can be seen ranting about the amount spent on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for himself and how much amount he provided to a different country. Also criticizing him and his government in every aspect.

Many users on social media shared this video using different captions.

A Facebook user writes, “Every Indian must listen to what the Nepal MP said about Modi in the Nepalese Parliament.

There are discussions all over the world about the wasteful expenditure of the thrower and the starvation of the country, our media is engaged in praise.(translates Hindi)

Many Facebook users shared the same video with the same caption.

Fact Check:

In the investigation of DFRAC we found the claim to be false. In the video that is going viral, it is not a Nepali MP but Congress MLA from Kinnaur in Himachal Pradesh, Jagat Singh Negi. The House seen in the video is the Assembly of Himachal Pradesh, which is being made viral with misleading claims by referring to the Parliament of Nepal.

The whole video can be seen in a video of live time TV Himachal under the caption, “Jagat Singh Negi lambasted the BJP in the House.”

Conclusion:

The video is getting viral with a misleading claim as the video is not of any MLA of Nepal, but is of Himachal Pradesh.

Claim Review: the MLA of Nepal says in criticism of Narendra Modi

Claimed by: social media users.

Fact Check: misleading
