Fact-Check: Old video used to claim that Israeli forces captured Al-Aqsa Mosque

A viral video first circulated 16 weeks ago has once again started making rounds on social media. According to the video and the caption, the video depicts how the Israeli force has captured the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem.

The video was posted by “Pushpendra Kulshrestha Hindu Yoddha” on Facebook and currently has over 8,00,000 views on Facebook. This is accompanied with 17,000 likes and thousands of comments.

The video was subsequently posted on twitter with a similar claim by numerous users.

Fact-Check:

Upon reverse image searching the key frames of this video we found an AP archive footage posted in 2015 on Youtube that dated this footage back to 2004.

The caption of the video suggests that the video is of joint US and Iraqi forces in Samarra, Iraq. Additionally the mosque pictured in this video is Iraq’s golden mosque not the Al-Aqsa mosque.

Therefore, this claim is false and misleading.
