Fact Check en Fake Featured

On social media, several Pakistani propaganda accounts have shared a video of JDU’s Jammu and Kashmir President, G.M. Shaheen, in which he is allegedly heard saying, “What did Modi achieve after Operation Sindhu? He lost to Pakistan. He lost his prestige, and India lost its prestige.”

Sharing this video, one user wrote: “BREAKING: J&K JD(U) President G.M. Shaheen says, ‘What did Modi achieve after Operation Sindoor? He lost to Pakistan. He lost his prestige, India lost its prestige. Today the world is making fun of us. Why is it so? Is it not evident that we lose?”

Fact Check:

The DFRAC team found during its investigation that this claim is false and that the viral video has been digitally altered. On the anniversary of the Pahalgam attack, Shaheen had actually praised ‘Operation Sindoor’ and Prime Minister Modi in his statement. We also found Shaheen’s original statement posted on ANI’s X (formerly Twitter) handle.

In his original statement, Shaheen said: “We can never forget that day, because that pain is what forced us to start ‘Operation Sindoor.’ If Pakistan even raises an eye toward us, it will witness more such operations. We remember those who lost their lives in the Pahalgam attack, and we want such an incident to never happen again. As far as our government is concerned, we commend PM Modi for taking immediate decisions.”

Our team also contacted G.M. Shaheen for further clarification. Completely refuting the viral claim, he stated that a fake statement had been circulated in his name. He clarified that his actual statement was that Pakistan received a fitting reply during Operation Sindoor, and that the government and armed forces are fully capable of delivering a strong response to Pakistan.

Conclusion:

DFRAC’s fact-check clearly establishes that the video circulating on social media is digitally altered. J&K JDU President G.M. Shaheen has not made any such statement.
