Panic swept through Mestern Road in Kanpur on Wednesday evening after a low-intensity blast in two parked scooters injured eight people, including a woman.
Social media users have claimed that Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) takes responsibility for the explosion near Markaz Masjid, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. An X user posted the following claim on the 8th of October, 2025, at 10:13 pm.
Fact Check
During the initial investigation, from the media reports, it was discovered that the explosion was purely related to the storage of illegal firecrackers. Upon further investigation, a Police briefing video was found on their social media handle, making an official statement on this incident, stating that the cause of the explosion was the illegal possession of firecrackers and no terrorist agenda or activity was linked to this explosion, making it a local matter. Approximately 8 people were injured, 4 received first aid before being sent home, and the other four were taken to Lucknow for additional medical care, out of which 2 were severely injured and are still in the hospital.
According to the statement given by the police, “A significant quantity of firecrackers was recovered near the shop where the explosion occurred. Furthermore, a warehouse located approximately 25 meters away was found to contain a large amount of high-explosive materials used in the manufacturing of firecrackers. All claims circulating on social media linking this incident to a mosque or activities such as “Khalistan Zindabad Force” are completely false and misleading. This is a local accident caused by the illegal storage and handling of firecrackers. Legal action is being taken against those involved in storing firecrackers without a license. So far, 12 individuals involved in the incident have been identified, and necessary actions are being taken.” (Translated from Hindi)
The police dismisses any statement regarding the involvement of terrorist activities and KZF in the incident. Serious repercussions will be imposed on the illegal firecracker bearers and the on-duty police staff. Five police officers have already been suspended by the police commissioner for their negligence during the occurrence of the incident.
Conclusion
The claim that the scooter explosion in Kanpur was due to the KZF or terrorist activities is false. It was a local explosion, purely due to the possession of illegal firecrackers.
