Fact Check: Video of protest originally from Venezuela goes viral as people gets away from violent rain in Delhi

Claim

A video is going viral on social media that shows people running amok in the streets, as it gets inundated due to cloudburst. A text is overlayed on the video which says, “बादल फटाने के डर से लोगों की भागा दौड़ मची 12.4.2025”, a rough translation of this is, “Due to fear of a cloudburst, people started running in panic. 12.4.2025”

The user had shared this video on April 14, 2025.

Similarly, another user on Instagram has shared this same video with overlay text saying, “दिल्ली में बादल फटने से मच्छी भगदड़ कल भी मैंने एक वीडियो डाला था”, a translation this of this is, “Due to a cloudburst in Delhi, there was chaos and panic — I had posted a video about it yesterday as well.”

Again a video that claims of rain in Delhi is shared on Instagram. The overlay text in the video says “दिल्ली में बादल फटने से मच्छी भगदड़ कल भी मैंने एक वीडियो डाला था”, a translation this of this is, “Due to a cloudburst in Delhi, there was chaos and panic — I had posted a video about it yesterday as well.”

This user had shared this video on April 3, 2025.

However, the same video uploaded on September 6, 2024 was shared on Instagram about Delhi. This user, too, has shared the claim of people running amok after a cloudburst in Delhi. With text in Hindi saying, “बादल फटाने के डर से लोगों की भागा दौड़ मची”, in English this text means, “People ran in chaos, fearing a cloudburst.”

Again a video that claims of rain in Delhi is shared on Instagram. The overlay text in the video says With text in Hindi saying, “बादल फटाने के डर से लोगों की भागा दौड़ मची”, in English this text means, “People ran in chaos, fearing a cloudburst.”

Fact Check

To investigate this claim, DFRAC conducted a reverse image search of a keyframe from the video. This reverse image search revealed many such claims online on various social media sites. Many same claims with same video were made in the year 2024 as well.

Further investigation revealed same video uploaded on venezuelaenlamira on Instagram and Monitoreamos, a profile on X, formerly Twitter.

Monitoreamos has shared this video on July 30, 2024. It has shared the video with a caption saying, “Protesta en Puerto La Cruz, estado Anzoátegui, contra el fraude de Maduro.” A translation of this says, “Protest in Puerto La Cruz, Anzoátegui state, against Maduro’s fraud.”

A video of a protest in Venezuela is shared on X. This is an anti-Maduro protest. People took to the street to show their discontent and disapproval of the then recently concluded presidential elections results. There is no mention of rain in Delhi in the video.

On Instagram, profile called venezuelaenlamira has shared the same video with a caption saying, “Protesta en Puerto La Cruz, estado Anzoátegui, contra el fraude de Maduro. Por Monitoreamos.” A rough translation of this is “Protest in Puerto La Cruz, Anzoátegui state, against Maduro’s fraud. By Monitoreamos.”

A video of a protest in Venezuela is shared on X. This is an anti-Maduro protest. People took to the street to show their discontent and disapproval of the then recently concluded presidential elections results. venezuelaenlamira has given  courtesy to Monitoreamos for taking their video and uploading theirs (venezuelaenlamira's) Instagram. There is no mention of rain in Delhi in the video.

This video was, too, shared on July 30, 2025 by venezuelaenlamira on Instagram. It has given courtesy to Monitoreamos for taking their video and uploading on their (venezuelaenlamira’s) Instagram profile.

A news report by CNN, published on July 30, 2025, has covered the matter. This was an Anti-Nicolas Maduro protest. After the Presidential election results revealed Maduro to continue his regime, people and opposition party took their protest to the streets.

Addition to this, we cross-checked media reports for any cloudburst incidents in Delhi; however, no such reports were found.

Conclusion

Hence, it is clear by the fact check that the viral video claiming to be depicting people running in order to save themselves from violent rain in Delhi.

The original video is from Venezuela which shows a protest against Nicolas Maduro. This video was originally published on July 30, 2024 on Monitoreamos profile on X (formerly Twitter). A news report by CNN also corroborates the fact that this protest happened in Venezuela.

Therefore, this viral video is misleading.
