The news of arrested militants in a grenade attack, falsely linked to India. Here's the reality

A claim has emerged on social media platform X(formerly Twitter) alleging that CTD has arrested 2 terrorists who were involved in the I-9 grenade attack. Both had contacts with TTP and India. The claim has been shared by a pak-based handle on X.

An account named Tactical Tribune shared an image on X and wrote: “Pakistan’s CTD has arrested 2 terrorists who were involved in I-9 grenade attack. Both had contacts with TTP and India”

Fact-Check

The DFRAC team investigated the claim and found it to be false. The arrested militants have no links to India.

We conducted a Google keyword search concerning the above viral claim and came across some of the latest reports from Ary News, Minute Mirror, and Daily Times.

As per reports, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) carried out a major operation near Mughal Market, Rawalpindi, arresting two highly dangerous terrorists linked to the extremist group Fitna Al-Khawarij, a CTD spokesperson said. The intelligence-based operation was conducted to apprehend the terrorists, who had already conducted reconnaissance of sensitive locations in Rawalpindi and Islamabad for planned attacks, the spokesperson added. The arrested militants were in contact with a key commander of Fitna Al-Khawarij in Afghanistan, according to CTD sources.

Notably, there has been no mention of India in the latest reports. Therefore, it can be concluded that the arrested militants have no links to India.

Conclusion

It is clear from DFRAC’s fact-check that the claim made by a pak-based X handle is false. Our brief investigation revealed that the arrested terrorists have been linked to the extremist group, not to India.
