A pak-based handle took to social media platform X(formerly Twitter) and claimed that India had halted trade with Russian companies and oil tankers facing U.S. sanctions.
While sharing a collage of PM Modi and Russian Prez Putin, the X handle named Kashmir English wrote: “India has halted trade with Russian companies and oil tankers facing U.S. sanctions”
Fact-Check
In the probe, the DFRAC team team found the claim to be misleading.
We searched some keywords on Google and came across some latest reports published by Reuters, Business Standard and Baltic News Network.
According to reports, Indian refiners have stopped dealing with U.S.-sanctioned oil tankers and entities but the country does not expect disruption to Russian crude supplies during a two-month wind-down period, a government source said on Monday, Jan 13.
Furthermore, the reports stated: “India would allow Russian oil cargoes booked before 10th of January to unload at ports under the terms of the sanctions, the official told reporters on condition of anonymity”.
Conclusion
DFRAC’s fact-check clearly shows that the claim made by the pak-based handle is misleading indeed. The country does not expect disruption to Russian crude supplies during a two-month wind-down period.
