Consequently, both of the countries have expelled their top diplomats. Amid this, the trend of fake news and misinformation has also intensified on the digital landscape.

A claim is doing rounds on social media platform X(formerly Twitter) alleging that Canada declared India a terrorist state.

The account of US Civil Defense News took to X and claimed that Canada declared India a terrorist state. Numerous users have shared this claim.

Fact-check

The DFRAC team investigated the viral claim and found that the claim had been misleadingly shared on X. India has not been declared a terrorist state.
A Google keyword search in this regard led us to a post by the X handle of the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security, which carried the link to the National Cyber Threat Assessment 2025-2026.

A thorough examination of this document reveals that Canada has stated a cyber threat from the Republic of India (India), the People’s Republic of China (PRC)
the Russian Federation (Russia)
the Islamic Republic of Iran (Iran)
and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK)
Moreover, India has not been mentioned as a terrorist state in the entire document.
