Fact-check: Has BBC reported that India unofficially surrendered 14,000 square kilometers of land to China? Here’s the Truth

Several pak-based handles took to social media platform X(formerly Twitter) and claimed that India unofficially surrendered 14,000 square kilometers of land to China quoting BBC reports as its source.

A pak-based handle operating under the name of @NavCom24 posted an image of the Chinese President Xi Jinping and wrote: “#BREAKING India unofficially surrendered 14,000 square kilometer land to China, BBC reports”

Furthermore, several other pak-based handles also shared this claim stating similar facts. The preview link can be seen here, here and here.

Fact-check

In the probe, DFRAC team found that the claim made by pak-handles was completely fake.
We conducted a brief investigation in this regard and found that no such report has been published by BBC in support of the above-shared claim.

Instead, we came across some latest reports published by BBC which focused on India-China tensions that had been discussed on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Russia, Kazan.

The latest report by BBC published 6 days back cited that the nation leaders of India and China met formally met on Wednesday, Oct 23, on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Russia. The meeting came days after the two sides announced they had reached an agreement on disengagement and resolution of issues in these areas.

While, another article dated Oct 21, mentioned the statement by Indian foreign secretary, Vikram Misri. “An agreement has been arrived at on patrolling arrangements along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the India-China border areas, leading to disengagement and a resolution of the issues that had arisen in these areas in 2020.

Conclusion

It is evident from DFRAC’s fact-check that the claim made by Pak-handles is completely #fake since BBC has not published any such report stating information about this claim.
