Image of a dead Journalist in Gaza Reporting is real or AI generated ?? Here's the Truth

Amid the misinformation of Middle East tensions, an image depicting the dead body of a man is making rounds on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Users are sharing this image and claiming that the man seen in the viral image is a journalist who might have lost his life during his reporting on oppressed Gaza.

An account with the username @Abu_Salah9 posted this image and wrote: “Until their last breath, they continued to convey the voice of the oppressed in Gaza” (Translated from Arabic)

Additionally, other users also shared this image with similar captions. The preview can be seen here, here and here.

Fact-check

The DFRAC team conducted a fact-check on the above viral image and found that it was generated by AI. On close inspection, we discovered a discrepancy in the fingers of the dead body shown in the viral image. Moreover, the word press on the jacket worn by the dead body seems distorted.

Furthermore, we examined the viral image using AI image detectors such as Hive Moderation and Hugging Face. Both detectors confirmed it as Ai generated.

Conclusion

DFRAC’s fact-check proves that the viral image shared with the claim of being the body of a Journalist is AI-generated.
