A pak-based handle shared an image on social media platform (formerly Twitter) and claimed that Modi govt has seized the property of two Kashmiris in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, accusing them of supporting the plebiscite demand.
Fact-Check
To check the veracity of the above shared claim, the DFRAC team reverse-searched this image using Google lens. We found this image featured in the reports by Greater kashmir and Daily excelsior published in June 2024. As per reports, Jammu and Kashmir Police attached properties worth crores of rupees belonging to two Pakistan-based terror handlers hailing from Baramulla district.
Further, the reports stated that the action was taken under CrPC section 83 and is linked to an FIR registered under various sections of the law, including the Arms Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the officials said. The property was identified as belonging to the terror handlers during the investigation.
Conclusion
It is clear from DFRAC’s fact-check that the above claim has been misleadingly shared on X. In reality, the properties of terror handlers has been seized by the police during investigation.
