On social media, a picture of Yazidi girl goes viral. While sharing this picture users claim that This Yazidi girl was kidnapped by ISIS, who are all Muslims, in 2014 in Syria and Iraq. They took turns r@ping her, then they sold her from one person to another, as she is in the picture.
Fact Check:
On investigation, DFRAC found a report from Morocco World News states “The video shows the ISIS member, who was misleadingly presented as the young girl’s groom, having a small chat with her before she recites verses of the Quran. Feeling embarrassed for making several mistakes during her recitation, Ghada, the young girl, starts crying before the man returns. He then clearly tries to comfort her and boost her spirits”.
Conclusion:
It is evident from the DFRAC fact check that the picture claiming that a Yazidi girl was kidnapped by ISIS, in 2014 in Syria and Iraq is misleading as the picture was taken from a video of a Quran recital competition which was organized by ISIS in Kalasa, a neighborhood in Aleppo, in 2013.
