News is doing rounds on the Internet alleging that Indian made artillery shell explode inside the barrel of Israeli howitzer, killing 3 IDF soldiers. The news has been shared by various users including a Pak-based handle social media platform X(Twitter).
Ironclad operating under the username of @NavCom24 and prominent spreader of misinformation on X shared an image and wrote: “Indian made artillery shell explode inside the barrel of Israeli howitzer, killing 03 IDF soldiers”
In addition to that, several other users also shared this news stating similar facts.
Fact-Check
To verify the authenticity of the above viral news, the DFRAC team conducted a keyword search in this regard. In our probe, no reports or news articles have come to light citing that 3 IDF soldiers due to the Indian made artillery shell. However, we found a news article by Israeli newspaper Haaretz from March 2024 informing that Indian munition being used by IDF for training purposes.
According to this news article, in case of Indian munitions, some American munitions came from emergency storehouses in India. Some of these left the factory in 1953, the soldiers had to try to accurately fire 70-year-old munitions. According to the U.S. Army, the maximal shelf life for such explosives is 40 years.
