Fact-Check: Did an Indian Intelligence Raw agent die in Delhi’s Burger King shooting? Here are the facts

Did an Indian Intelligence Raw agent die in Delhi's Burger King shooting?

The CCTV footage of Delhi’s Burger King shooting incident has recently surfaced on the social media platform X(formerly Twitter). A pak-based handle has shared the footage and claimed that an Indian intelligence agency RAW agent was assassinated in a Burger King restaurant located in Delhi’s Rajouri Garden area.

Taking to X, an account with the username @Pak1stTeam shared this footage on X and wrote: “Indian intelligence agency R&AW agent assassinated in Burger King restaurant in Rajouri garden area of Delhi. The agent was called using a honey trap and then killed by target killers. 40 bullets were emptied into the agent.”

Fact-Check

Upon reverse-searching the keyframes generated from the viral video, the DFRAC team found the latest reports from multiple media outlets such as  Hindustan Times, NDTV, Indian Express and Livemint. According to these reports, the victim shot in Delhi’s Rajouri Garden food joint has been identified as Aman Joon from Haryana’s Jhajjar. He had come to meet the woman who was already present in the restaurant.

The Indian Express’s report stated: ” According to police, the motive behind the murder appeared to be revenge by a rival gang”. Furthermore, reports from Hindustan Times, Indian Express, NDTV, and Livemint cited that a fugitive gangster has claimed responsibility for this murder in a social media post asserting this killing as revenge for the murder of their associate.

Apparently, there was no mention of any Raw agent in the media reports.

Conclusion

It is clear from DFRAC’s Fact-Check that the claim made by Pak-based Handle along with CCTV footage is misleading as the victim identified in this incident is not a Raw agent and the murder seems to be related to the motive of revenge.
