A video is going viral on social media site X(Twitter) depicting a missile attack on a warship. Several users have shared this video on X and claimed that Yemen’s Houthi rebels scored a direct hit on US destroyer ‘Mason’.
Sharing this video on X, a user named Syrian Girl , who claims to be a journalist on X, wrote: “Yemen Houthi forces Score a direct hit in US destroyer ‘Mason’. This is all because Biden decided to build a port in Gaza to help Israel genocide Palestine”
Furthermore, the video was shared by other users with similar claims.
Fact-Check
The DFRAC team investigated the viral video by converting it into some Keyframes. We reverse-searched these keyframes on google and found a similar video on YouTube with the caption “Norways Naval Strike Missile LIVE ACTION”. Moreover, the video was uploaded in 2013.
Upon investigating further, we found that the claim shared with the video seems to be true. We found some recently published reports from Business Standard and abc News. As per reports, Yemen’s Houthi rebels on Wednesday claimed targeting a U.S. Navy destroyer and a commercial ship in the Red Sea. However, the attack on the warship apparently happened nearly two days earlier and saw the vessel intercept the missile targeting it.
Conclusion
It is clear from DFRAC’s fact-check that the old video from 2013 has been shared misleadingly with the recent news on X. The video shows the impact of Norwegian missile on warship indeed.
