Amid the India-Maldives diplomatic row, a screenshot of Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu’s tweet has taken the Internet by storm showing his apology to Indians for the derogatory remarks made by his ministers on PM Modi’s recent Lakshadweep visit. Users on social media platforms are sharing this screenshot and claiming that the Maldivian President apologized with folded hands but deleted the tweet later.
Sharing the viral screenshot on X(Twitter), a user named ‘Manoj Kumar’ wrote: “It’s the beginning of Apologies Mr. President Md.Muizzu @MMuizzu Game not yet over it’s just started Maldivian President apologised with folded hands but the tweet was deleted after outrage by some local audiences.”

Has the Maldivian President tweeted an apology to Indians regarding derogatory remarks on PM Modi’s visit? It would have undoubtedly made headlines in the mainstream media. We didn’t get any such media reports concerning that.
For further investigation, we skimmed through the official X(Twitter) handle of the Maldivian President but we didn’t discover any such tweet carrying an apology to Indians.
Moreover, we noted that the latest tweet from his X(Twitter) handle was made on Jan 5, 2024, whereas the date mentioned on the viral screenshot is Jan 7, 2024, but no Am/Pm was given with the time.
Upon searching the Way Back archive, we did not find the link to any such tweet made by him.
Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC’s Fact-Check that the viral screenshot of Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu’s tweet apologizing to Indians is Fake. Indeed, no such apology tweet has been done by the President. Hence, the claim of social users is false.
