A screenshot of a tweet by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal (@ArvindKejriwal) is being shared on social media. Kejriwal’s viral tweet claims that while commenting on the leaders not appearing before the ED-CBI for investigation, he had asked them to resign from their posts.
In this viral tweet, Kejriwal reportedly wrote- “As a patriotic Indian, my head hangs in shame when our corrupt leaders do not appear before the ED and CBI even after multiple summons from the investigating agencies, while He should have immediately resigned from his posts as soon as the allegations were made.” (English translation)
BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia has quoted this tweet and wrote – ‘I wonder how innocent he was, what happened after'(English Translation)
The screenshot of this alleged tweet by Arvind Kejriwal has also been shared by many other users.
Fact Check
The DFRAC team observed the viral tweet very closely. The tweet is dated 24 November 2012. We searched advance search on X and didn’t find any such tweet. After this, our team checked the archive. We didn’t find any such tweet of Kejriwal there.
Meanwhile, our team found some mistakes in the viral tweet. We found that there were a total of 257 characters in Arvind Kejriwal’s tweet, whereas till November 2017, the maximum character limit for tweets on X (Twitter) was only 140, which was increased to 280.
Conclusion
Therefore, it is clear from the DFRAC fact check that the viral screenshot of Arvind Kejriwal’s tweet has been edited. Kejriwal has not made any such tweet in 2012. Hence, the claim of social media users is fake.
