The claim made by users
An X user named @AshokSi51878657 shared the video and wrote “This Manuwadi Brahmin has been continuously giving controversial statements on social media in India and has been caught having fun with the women of our country. This person should get the harshest punishment. So that the honor of women cannot be tarnished”. (Translated in English)
Fact Check
DFRAC team investigated both the clips in the video. For the Fact-check of the first video, we searched some keywords on Google and found some media reports from dailymirroronline, dailymirrorworld, and JVPNEWS stating that the man shown in the video who is getting beaten was a Sri Lankan Buddhist monk named Pallegama Sumana Thero. For the fact-check of the second clip, a reverse-image search led us to website Sanatan Prabhat showing the picture of Hindu priest Swami Anand Swaroop.
Conclusion
Therefore, It is clear from the DFRAC’s fact check that the claim made by users is misleading as there are two different individuals in the viral video, one is a Buddhist monk from Sri Lanka who caught with two women in the room, and the other one is a Hindu priest.
