Fact Check

The DFRAC team investigated the viral claim attached to the video. We reverse-searched the keyframes from the viral video. It led us to the YouTube channels of AFP News Agency and Bloomberg, posted in June 2019.

AFP uploaded the video on 15 June 2019, which captured a press conference, with the caption – Trump on Congresswomen: “If you are not happy, you can leave”

AFP Youtube

The description of the video read – “As far as I’m concerned, if you hate our country, if you’re not happy here, you can leave” says US President Donald Trump following his tweets at the weekend, taking aim at progressive Democratic congresswomen, telling them to “go back” where they came from. His remarks sparked yet another firestorm over his views on race and immigration. SOUNDBITE

Bloomberg Television also uploaded the same video with the description-  President Donald Trump talks about four Democratic lawmakers he says should “go back” to where they came from. Trump says if they’re not happy here in the United States, then they can leave. Trump spoke at the White House.

Bloomberg Television

The reporter in both videos inquired about Donald Trump’s tweet from the same month. Upon locating the tweet, it was observed that it had no reference to any Indian citizen.

Conclusion:

Thus in fact-checking, we analyzed the video and found no mention of ‘Indians’. Hence the viral claim is misleading, as Donald Trump has not released any such statement against Indian citizens.
