Tensions are simmering between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the contested territory of Nagorno-Karabakh. According to recent media reports, Iran has sent a serious warning to Azerbaijan not to launch any attack in the southern Syunik region of Armenia. Amid this, a fake statement is going viral on social media platforms claiming that the Turkish Foreign Ministry has issued a warning for Iran.
Sharing an image On Twitter(X), accounts of digital media houses named Visegrad 24 and X Breaking News wrote: “The Turkish Foreign Ministry: “If Iran takes action against Azerbaijan, the Turkish Army will be quick to respond”.
Visegrad 24 ‘s tweet has been re-posted more than 1.5k times and received over 1.3k likes till now whereas it has been viewed by 1.2 million users on Twitter(X).
Furthermore, several users are also sharing this image and making similar claims.
Fact-Check
The DFRAC team searched some Keywords related to the above viral claim which led us to the Twitter account of a journalist named Ragip Soylu who refuted the viral claim by stating: “Total fake news, neither Turkish foreign ministry nor minister Fidan made such statement” in his recent tweet.
Following this, we also went through the official Twitter handle and website of the Turkish Foreign Ministry (@MFATurkiye) but we did not find any such post or tweet related to the above viral claim.
However, we discovered a brief news article published by APA mentioning: “On September 10, President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan made a phone call to President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, APA reports”
Conclusion
It is clear from DFRAC’s Fact-Check that the viral claim related to the statement by the Turkish MFA is completely Fake since the Turkish MFA did not give any statement to Iran on the ongoing dispute between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
