A video depicting a young boy physically assaulting and forcibly cutting the hair of a monk has been observed going viral among social media users.
In the video footage, an individual is observed engaging in inappropriate behavior towards an elderly monk. The young man initially subjected the elderly monk to verbal abuse and physical assault, subsequently proceeding to forcibly cut his hair and beard.
Journalist Sudhir Mishra(@Sudhir_mish) shared the video with the caption that read,” Video of vandalism brutality by pulling hair and beard of an elderly monk is viral.. It is being told…. that the incident was carried out by people of some special community. Action should be taken after identifying it.” (Translated into English)
Other social media users were also found to share the video with the same claim.
Fact Check:
In order to verify the veracity of the video, we checked our DFRAC’s archive and found that a fact check was conducted before on this video by our team on May 31,2022. We found that before as well the video was shared by social media with misleading claim.
The reality of the video was reported by NDTV. They published a report on 24 May, 2022. The article quoted Khandwa Superintendent of Police Vivek Singh, “Khandwa Superintendent of Police Vivek Singh said that the case of assault and jata bite of the sadhu is of Sunday. The sadhu earns his living by asking for alms in the market. At the same time, the accused Praveen Gaur is the hotel operator. There was an argument between the hotel operator and the sadhu over something, after which the hotel operator beat him up in the Surrey market and took him to the salon shop and cut off his jata. ”
Conclusion:
Based on the fact check, it is apparent that the incident depicted in the viral video was filmed in Khandwa and has resurfaced with misleading assertions made by social media users. It should be noted that this video is not recent, but rather an older recording from Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh.
