Navratri is the holy festival of Hinduism. On different days of  Navratri, nine forms of the mother Goddess are worshipped. During this, prayers are done in temples at different places across the country. Regarding this festival of Navratri, a claim is getting viral on social media. Users who shared this are claiming that the government of Rajasthan has forbidden religious events at the Hinglaj temple in Barmer.

A user named DR. Richa Rajput wrote- “Pakistan is an Islamic country, yet the temple of Hinglaj Goddess was never forbidden there. Meanwhile, there is a state in India, Rajasthan, and there is also a temple of the Hinglaj Goddess but this time there is a ban on worshipping in that temple during Navratras. Smile  you are in secular India.” (English Translation)

It is clear from the verification of the Rajasthan Police that permission will have to be taken before organizing Garba or Story reading in the temple. Police said the situation was under control and peace was maintained.

According to ABP News, “After the division of priests in the temple into two groups, the worship and rituals of both the groups were banned so that there was no bad atmosphere on the part of the police and administration. This temple complex is open for the general public.”

In this regard, the report published by Dainik Jagran said that – “Just before Navratri, the Kotwali police station of Barmer has issued a notice to the administration of Hinglaj Mata Temple, in which it has been mentioned to ban any kind of religious activities inside the temple with prior permission.” The police department has cited the mutual factionalism of Khatri society as the reason behind this. Police have expressed apprehension that there is a dispute over mutual factionalism in the temple, which can be fierce at any time and peace can be disturbed.

Conclusion:

It is clear from the explanation of Rajasthan Police that no restriction has been imposed on worship or entry to the Hinglaj temple. The police have ordered prior permission to be taken before holding religious activities on the temple premises in view of the ongoing dispute between the two groups and the possibility of confrontation.
