The Assam government has ordered a crackdown on Rohingya Muslims who are believed to settle systematically in minority-dominated districts of the state in large numbers.
Meanwhile, an image is getting viral on social media sites in which it is written, “In the Hindu dominated state of Assam, lakhs of invading Bangladeshi Muslims, infiltrators, have grabbed 73% of the property of Hindus by colluding with local Muslims, Hindus now have to live in refugee camps.
The image is getting viral with the claim that in the state of Assam, lakhs of invading Bangladeshi Muslims have grabbed 73% of the property of Hindus. It is also claimed that 40 lakh Rohingyas are living illegally.
A user on Twitter writes, “Due to Rohingyas , there may be a demographic change in India. Why should India allow Rohingyas in India. Why my tax money be invested in their camps?Rohingya Go Back #रोहिंग्या_भगाओं_देश_बचाओं.”
Fact Check:
To check on the viral claim DFRAC desk used specific keywords and keyphrases and found no information where it is written that Bangladeshi Muslims have grabbed 73% of the property of Hindus or Hindus in Assam are now residing in refugee camps, because if so would have been the case the mainstream media would have covered it.
When we searched for the 2nd claim where it is mentioned about 40 lakh illegal Muslim migrants are residing in Assam, DFRAC found the numerical to be misleading as the number is not 40 lakhs but 40 thousand.
This number consists of Rohingyas residing in Hyderabad, Jammu Nuh, and Delhi.
Conclusion:
Both the claim in the image are not true. The former claim it is totally fake while the latter is misleading with the numbers.
