The video has been widely circulated by multiple social media accounts, amplifying the claim that the assault was motivated by religious hatred, which can be seen here, here and here.

Fact Check:

DFRAC investigated the viral claim and found it to be false. To investigate the viral claim, we conducted a reverse image search using keyframes extracted from the viral video. This led us to a report published by MP Tak. According to the report, the incident occurred in the Nagod area of Satna district, Madhya Pradesh, and was linked to a property dispute. The report identified the victim as “Dheeru (Deepu) Chaudhary”, a labourer who was allegedly assaulted by local men while carrying out construction work. The footage shows his wife crying and pleading for help as he is dragged by his hair and beaten. However, the report does not mention any religious motive behind the attack.

During further verification, we found another report by NDTV MP/Chhattisgarh carrying the same visuals. The report also identified the victim as “Deepu Chaudhary” and described the incident as a dispute arising from local property-related issues.

Additionally, our team contacted Nagod Police Station SHO Ashok Pandey. He told us that the incident has no Hindu-Muslim or communal angle. Both the accused and the victim belong to the Hindu community. He explained that the dispute arose between two brothers over a property. One of the brothers had hired Deepu Chaudhary to carry out construction work on the disputed property. The other brother objected to the construction, which led to an altercation and physical scuffle involving Deepu Chaudhary.

Conclusion:

DFRAC’s investigation found that the viral video is being shared with a false communal narrative. The victim has been identified as Dheeru (Deepu) Chaudhary, and the assault took place in Satna district, Madhya Pradesh, in connection with a property dispute. Police and media reports confirm that there is no evidence of any religious motive, and both the victim and the accused belong to the Hindu community.
