A video is going viral on social media in which a man is seen being hanged by a crowd. Users are sharing the clip with the claim that a Christian man accidentally entered a temple while wearing slippers, after which he was beaten to death by Hindus.

One user shared the video with a caption that “Radical Hindutva gang members allegedly lynched a Christian man for unintentionally entering a Mandir (Hindu temple) with slippers.”

Tanvir Chowdhurya, a Bangladeshi journalist, has also shared the video, making a similar claim that Christian man was murdered by Hindus.

Apart from this, many other users are also sharing this video with similar claims, which can be seen here and here.

Fact Check:

The DFRAC team’s investigation found that the video is not recent. In April 2024, the same video was circulated with a different claim—that a Dalit youth was publicly hanged in Rajasthan. At that time, the Rajasthan Police debunked the claim and clarified that no such incident had taken place in the state. The police also labeled the video as fake.

In an official statement, Rajasthan Police said, “Some antisocial elements are posting a #FakeVideo on various social media platforms, claiming the incident occurred in #Rajasthan. This video is completely #fake; no such incident has taken place here. The matter is under investigation, and strict action will be taken against those spreading such content.”(English translation)

The DFRAC team had also fact-checked this video on April 29, 2024. At that time, it was falsely claimed that a Dalit youth named Narayan Das was publicly hanged for allegedly insulting an idol in an upper-caste temple. That claim was also found to be misleading.

Conclusion:

DFRAC’s investigation clearly shows that the viral claim is misleading. The same video had circulated in 2024 with false claims about a Dalit youth’s murder in Rajasthan, which were debunked by the Rajasthan Police. There is no evidence to support the current claim that a Christian man was killed by Hindus for entering a temple.
