The DFRAC team examined the viral video and found that the incident did not take place in Mira Road, Mumbai. Instead, it occurred in Hyderabad, Telangana, in January. The case is not about a person being beaten because of his religious identity. Rather, it shows a man being beaten after allegations that he desecrated a temple by spreading filth inside it.
When key frames from the viral video were used in a reverse image search, the same footage was found on the Siasat Daily YouTube channel uploaded on January 11, along with the description: “Hyderabad: Man held for desecrating at temple in Safilguda, Hindu outfits protest”
Further investigation found reports from media outlets such as Zee News and ABP News, which dated the incident to January 10. According to Zee News, “In Hyderabad, a Muslim man allegedly spread filth in a temple, desecrating it. Enraged by this, the crowd standing outside the temple beat him badly. The man has been identified as Altaf. Allegedly he entered the Katta Maisamma temple premises and defecated/urinated near the sacred stone.” (English Translation)
