A viral post has circulated online alleging that India returned 300 oil tankers from Saudi Arabia, causing Saudi Arabia’s economy to plunge by 10 % within 24 hours, and that India threatened to halt food grain exports on which Saudi Arabia is supposedly dependent.
A user has shared an extensive long claim stating, ” India returned 300 tankers filled with petroleum belonging to Saudi Arabia, causing a stir in Saudi Arabia. Did Saudi Arabia think that by signing a defense deal with Pakistan, it would be considered an attack on Saudi Arabia, and that India would not retaliate? India would remain silent? But the Saudi Prince forgot that this is a new India, the Modi government, which does not compromise on national interests. The Indian government immediately stopped the tankers coming from Saudi Arabia. It is reported that within 24 hours of this move by India, Saudi Arabia’s economy declined by approximately 10%. Furthermore, India also warned that exports to Saudi Arabia, which relies on India for food grains, would also be halted. This caused a stir in Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Prince himself called the Modi government and clarified the deal with Pakistan. Citing India’s unwavering ties with India, he stated that relations with India would remain unchanged. This move by India has shaken the world because even superpowers like Europe think a thousand times before taking such strict steps against Saudi Arabia. After all, firstly, Saudi Arabia is the centre of Muslims, and secondly, it is a hub of petrol. But this step of the Modi government has changed the equations of geopolitics and has also opened new dimensions, along with this, it has been made clear to the world in clear words that India will not compromise with its interests….!!!” (translated into English).
Fact Check
Upon investigation, we found these claims to be fake. No credible news outlet has reported that India refused or returned Saudi oil tankers, and there is no evidence of a sudden 10 % economic collapse linked to such an event. Likewise, no verified source confirms that India issued a threat to suspend food grain exports to Saudi Arabia.
On the contrary, bilateral trade in agricultural products continues to grow. In August 2025, apricots from Kargil were exported to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar for the first time under the One District One Product initiative, highlighting stronger food trade rather than disruption.
Conclusion
The claims of India returning 300 Saudi oil tankers, crashing Saudi Arabia’s economy, and threatening to halt food grain exports are fake. India–Saudi trade relations remain active, with new agricultural exports further strengthening ties.
