A discussion on Pakistan’s ABN News claimed that India abstained in the UN General Assembly vote on the ‘New York Declaration’ endorsing a peaceful settlement between Israel and Palestine and the two-state solution.
At the 3-minute timestamp in the video, Abdul Basit, a retired Pakistani diplomat who served as the former High Commissioner of Pakistan to India, can be seen in the discussion claiming that India abstained in the UN General Assembly against Palestine.
Fact Check
Upon investigation, we found the claim to be misleading. On 12 September 2025, the UN General Assembly adopted a non-binding resolution known as the New York Declaration on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.
The resolution passed with 142 votes in favour, 10 against, and 12 abstentions. Contrary to the claim, India did not abstain from voting. Multiple credible Indian media outlets confirmed that India was among the 142 countries that voted in favour of the resolution.
Conclusion
Thus, from the fact check, it is evident that the claim that India abstained in the UNGA vote on the New York Declaration is false. India was among the 142 countries that voted in favour of the resolution supporting Palestinian statehood and the two-state solution.
