Fact Check: No Unique Four-Nation Meeting of Russia, Pakistan, Iran, and China Confirmed in SCO Summit 2025

Fact Check en Uncategorized

The SCO summit kicked off on Sunday in the northern port city of Tianjin, days before a massive military parade in the capital Beijing to mark 80 years since the end of World War II.

Amidst this, Pakistan-based accounts have shared the claim stating, ” For the First time in history, Russia, Pakistan, Iran, and China will hold separate joint meetings on the occasion of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.”

Multiple accounts have shared the claim, which can be viewed here and here.

Fact Check:

Upon investigation, the claim was found to be false. There is no official reporting to suggest that Russia, Pakistan, Iran, and China are holding a new or first-ever separate joint meeting of just those four countries at this summit.

On June 14, 2025, Iranian media reported that Tehran would hold talks with its key Asian partners, Russia and China, on the sidelines of a Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit scheduled for Tuesday, as Iran seeks support following a 12-day air conflict with Israel the previous month.

In September 2021, the foreign ministers of Russia, China, Pakistan, and Iran held a meeting on the sidelines of the SCO summit in Dushanbe to discuss Afghanistan. However, no such separate meeting is scheduled this time.

Conclusion:

Verdict: False

Therefore, the fact check makes it clear that there is no current evidence of a new or exclusive gathering among these four countries at the #SCOSummit2025 that could be considered unprecedented.
