Fact Check

The DFRAC team searched the viral claim on the internet and it was found out to be misleading. The ex – vice president of India made an official statement on X on 21 July 2025. Dhankar stated explicitly that he is resigning so that he can take care of himself and follow medical instructions.

The released statement narrates that it was not a forced eviction that was carried out. As under Article 67 (b) of the Indian Constitution, the Vice President cannot be removed except through a parliamentary procedure of a resolution overcome by effective majority in the Rajya Sabha followed by the approval of Lok Sabha. But such a bill was not passed.

When trying to find some information on google we got some articles. On 22 July 2025, an article was published by the ‘India Today’. The heading says “Despite their numerous clashes, why the surprise departure of Veep left the Opposition in disbelief”. It also adds that “the resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar in a sudden way on the basis of health is surprising the parties of ruling and opposition. In a surprise action, the move has provoked speculation and caused some quick-thinking strategic retreat amongst political leaders.”

Disproving the allegations of the failure of the ‘Operation Sindoor’, we discovered a report by PIB. It was issued on 14 May 2025. It has been named as “Operation SINDOOR: The Rise of Aatmanirbhar Innovation in National Security India growing technological self-reliance”. Moreover it states that “Operation SINDOOR is not a mere build up of tactical success. It is a confirmation of the policies of defence indigenization in India. Whether it is air defence or drones or counter-UAS or net-centric warfare platforms, when the chips were down, indigenous technology proved its mettle.”

Conclusion

Hence, it is verified that the viral claim is misleading. Dhankar left office citing ill health and the article by the India Today and the post by Ex – vice president on X makes this fact very clear. The report released by PIB also busts the fact that Operation Sindoor was a failure. It attained the type of success that was desired. In India the vice president is never responsible for any military action therefore we conclude that Dhankar has not resigned because of any issues related to Operation Sindoor.
