The 17th BRICS Summit was held on 6 and 7 July 2025. This year, the Summit was organised in Rio De Janeiro in Brazil. A photo is going viral on the internet concerning the members of BRICS. The picture was shared by netizens on different platforms of social media, such as X and Instagram. The list of the member and partner countries of BRICS can be seen in the viral image. The list indicates that Saudi Arabia is also a member country of BRICS.

Fact Check

A research analysis regarding the information available in the viral image was carried out by the DFRAC team. The picture was then found to be deceptive since Saudi Arabia is yet to be a part of BRICS. In a report by Reuters that is titled “Saudi Arabia sits on fence over BRICS with eye on vital ties with the US”. It is implied that Saudi Arabia has not yet decided to be part of the BRICS even though it was present in a BRICS meeting held in Brazil in May 2024.

Wikipedia also indicates that Saudi Arabia did not become a part of BRICS at the beginning of the year 2024 as was intended. By the middle of January 2024, it indicated that they are still pondering on the proposal.

Conclusion

Hence, through all the sources mentioned, it is confirmed that Saudi Arabia is still weighing the step of joining the BRICS. In 2025, it is not a member country. The viral image is misleading.
