Fact Check

DFRAC investigated the viral claim and confirmed that it is FAKE. As we could not find any facts or claims supporting the authenticity of the claim. We also tried to find the official media reports in India and Iran supporting the viral claim, but did not succeed in that case either. Moreover, we sought any posts that were issued by any of the official social media accounts of the two countries, and we could not find any.

Nonetheless, we found some articles in TOI and Mint media. These articles suggest that the relationship between India and Iran is relatively of understanding and peace. The Mint article is titled ” Indian Embassy in Iran to close contact desk and wind up evacuation exercise: government keeping close eye on situation”.

The heading of the TOI article is as follows: ” Middle East crisis: PM Modi talks to Iranian president Pezeshkian; urges immediate de-escalation.”

This is not the first time that fake claims of a strained relationship between Iran and India have been shared on social media. DFRAC has debunked similar claims before. We did fact checks of fake claims such as “Indians Arrested in Iran for Spying” and “Indian spies being hanged in Iran”. You can read those articles here and here, respectively.

Conclusion

Hence, we conclude that the viral claim of “Iran has expelled two Indian diplomats from the embassy in Tehran. This follows the arrest of 19 Indian nationals on charges of espionage and collaboration with Israeli intelligence” stands FAKE. According to the media reports by Mint and TOI, India’s relations with Iran are warm and pleasant.
