AI-gen image of Supriya Shrinate with Vijay Mallya goes viral

An image of Vijay Mallya (famous Indian Businessman and former politician) with Supriya Shrinate (an Indian politician and former journalist and national spokesperson for the Indian National Congress) is going viral on the Internet.

A user on YouTube from a channel named ‘@Charchataksmachar’ posted the image. The caption of the post was (translated in English) “Jalebi bai is also involved with Mallya”. The post has more than fifty-three thousand views and one thousand likes.

Another user on Facebook with the username ‘Postcard Andolan’ posted the image. Along with a very derogatory remark towards Supriya Shrinate, the national spokesperson for the Indian National Congress.

Fact Check

DFRAC after research found the image to be FAKE. We conducted a reverse image search on Google Images. No similar image was published on any official media channel or report. We also searched for the image on the official social media handles of Vijay Mallya and Supriya Shrinate. We found no similar image there as well.

To further confirm we uploaded the image on some AI-image detector websites such as ‘Hive Moderation’ and ‘Wasit AI’. The results of these AI detector websites declared the image is AI-generated.

Vijay Vittal Mallya (born 18 December 1955) is an Indian businessman and a former politician. He is the subject of an extradition effort by the Indian Government to bring him back from the UK to face charges of financial crimes in India.

Supriya Shrinate (born 27 October 1977), also known as Supriya Srinet. She is an Indian politician and former journalist, and national spokesperson for the Indian National Congress. She contested the 2019 Indian general election (Lok Sabha election) from the Maharajganj constituency and lost.

Hence, the viral image of Supriya Shrinate with Vijay Mallya stands as FAKE and AI-generated. They are not involved with each other and have not met each other either. As there is no media report or official statement from either of them to confirm the claim.
