A video showing a rickshaw demolition while the driver cries and tries to save it is going viral on social media. Many users are claiming that the incident took place in Delhi and that the Delhi Municipal Corporation, under the BJP government, is responsible for destroying the rickshaw of a poor man. The video is being widely shared, accompanied by captions that condemn the government’s alleged actions against the poor.
One user captioned the video: “Municipal Corporation PWD staff destroyed a poor man’s rickshaw. What was his fault? #mcd #mcddelhi #mcdonaldschallenge #viralphotochallenge.”

Fact Check
Upon investigation, we found the claim to be misleading. To verify the claim, a keyword search was conducted, which led to the original video posted on a Facebook page on May 13. The description mentioned Dhaka, Bangladesh, and stated that the rickshaw was being removed as part of an anti-encroachment drive. The driver reportedly fell to the ground during the incident.

Further investigation led to the same video being found on a YouTube channel, also uploaded on May 14, identifying the location as Dhaka. Additionally, the official YouTube channel of the Dhaka Tribune uploaded the video on May 14, 2025, with the caption stating: “The city corporation crushed a battery-operated autorickshaw after it entered the main road.”

A related video was also found on the Bangladeshi news outlet Daily Ittefaq, published on May 14, 2025. According to the report, the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) destroyed three such autorickshaws as a penalty for driving on restricted main roads. The incident quickly gained attention online. DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz later announced that compensation would be provided to the affected rickshaw drivers.

Conclusion
The viral video claiming that the Delhi Municipal Corporation demolished a poor man’s rickshaw is misleading. In reality, the incident took place in Dhaka, Bangladesh, not Delhi. The action was carried out by the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) as part of a drive against unauthorized autorickshaws on main roads.
