A video is going viral that shows different visuals of a protest. Police taking down the protest by lathi-charge and arresting the protesters. Another visual show a protest march. And people in bus also chanting something incoherent in favor of protest. A user has alleged that the protest is against PM Narendra Modi and protesters are demanding his resignation.

This video is shared by Naeem Kayani on May 1, 2025. He has shared the video with a caption in Urdu. A rough translation of which says, After the press conference by the Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and #DGISPR, chaos erupted in India. The #Indian public took to the streets, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister #Modi.

Fact Check
To investigate the viral video, the DFRAC conducted a reverse image search of the keyframes from the video. The image search led us to video posted on January 10, 2020. The user has criticized the police action against woman protestor and students.

People were protesting against the attack that happened in JNU.

After knowing about the reason of protest, our team did a search on JNU attack in 2020. A news report from India Today, published on January 10, 2025, gave a comprehensive timeline of all events that happened in the campus of JNU.

Another report by BBC, published on January 6, 2020, has informed about the protests that happened after the attack on student in JNU campus.

The report further stated about the attack which targeted students and staff of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Masked men wielding sticks attacked them in the JNU Campus.
Videos of the violence quickly spread across the country via WhatsApp and TV media. This led to shock and outrage.
Conclusion
Hence, the viral video is an old one and is not related to the ongoing India-Pakistan tension after the Pahalgam terror attack.
This video is five years old and depicts a protest and police action against the protestors. The protestors were protesting and marching against the 2020 JNU attacks in early January 2020.
Hence, the post is misleading.
