Claim
The All-India Muslim Personal Law Board initiated a protest against the Modi government over the passage of the Waqf Amendment Act. On the backdrop, a claim is going viral on social media which states that the Modi government is going to provide a 70% subsidy for the Hajj pilgrimage.
On social media site X, a user named Sadhak Roop shared a screenshot of a post by India TV news channel. The text on the image reads, Breaking News – 70% subsidy by Modi government for Muslims going on Hajj.

The India TV logo is visible on the screenshot, and the top banner reads: “Modi invites Muslims for talks on Waqf.” Meanwhile, the lower banner says: “Prime Minister Modi expresses gratitude for the Waqf law.”
Fact Check
To investigate the viral claim, the DFRAC conducted a thorough search on the official handle of the news channel India TV on social media platform X. During this process, our team found a news report. In this 3-minute 23-second news report, there was no breaking slide that showed the text – “70% Allowance by Modi government for Muslims going on Hajj.”

Along with this, our team also gathered information related to the Hajj subsidy. A report from the news channel Aaj Tak, revealed that the Modi government ended the subsidy for Hajj pilgrims in 2018.

Conclusion
Hence, the fact check by DFRAC makes it clear that the viral claim of Modi government providing a 70% subsidy for Hajj pilgrims is fake. Modi government in 2018 has already cancelled this subsidy for Hajj. As of recent, there is no such announcement made by the government for the resumption of this annulled subsidy.
