Fact Check

To investigate the claim, the DFRAC did a keyword search. This led us to news reports on this issue. A report by The Print, dated 25 March 2025, states about the arrest of a top executive of Tech Mahindra in Qatar.

Additionally, Qatari authorities have not, as of now, framed any charges against the Tech Mahindra executive.

Tech Mahindra executive Amit Gupta, the region head for Qatar and Kuwait, has been arrested by Qatari authorities in connection with an alleged corruption case. The news article states that no formal charges have been framed yet, and Gupta's family denies emerging data theft allegations. The featured image includes the Tech Mahindra building with an inset photo of Amit Gupta in an office setting. The report highlights that details of the case will only be revealed once charges are officially filed.

Furthermore, Amit Gupta was arrested by the Qatari authorities at the beginning of the year in connection with an alleged corruption case they are investigating. Many details will be known as soon as charges are framed.

According to the report, without divulging more details of the arrest, Gupta was detained as he was the regional head.

Tech Mahindra’s Amit Gupta, a Gujarat-based engineer, has been detained in Qatar as part of an ongoing investigation. The company says it’s staying in touch with his family and keeping an eye on the situation. The image shows Amit Gupta sitting in an office chair, dressed in a suit, giving a professional vibe.

Moreover, Gupta’s family rejects the allegations of potential data theft, as reported in the local media in Vadodara. His mother indicates his position in the company to the fact behind his arrest. Another report by Financial Express, dated 23 March 2025, mentions Gupta’s mother, Pushpa Gupta, visiting Doha to meet her son. This meeting was only for half an hour. After reaching out to the Vadodara MP Hemang Joshi, she got assurance from him about raising this issue with the government.

Conclusion

Hence, the fact check shows that the claim made on the viral post is misleading.

As of now, there is no official confirmation by the Qatari authorities on the reason behind Amit Gupta’s arrest. Allegations of data theft are reported in the media, but no official confirmation is there to back these reports.

Analysis: Misleading
