Claim

A viral video garnered attention on social media claiming that fundamentalists are attacking minority Hindus in Bangladesh. Sharing an explicit video of a woman and man in compromising scenes the users claimed that “some fundamentalists entered the house of a Hindu family and lynched the husband, wife and a child”. While another user claimed that “Under the new regime of Bangladesh, enter a house, rape women freely in front of the rest of the family”.

A viral tweet claims escalating violence in Bangladesh country, alleging an attack on a Bangladesh Hindu woman and her family by extremists. The shared video, sourced from social media, supposedly depicts the assault. The blurred preview image shows a person wearing a white shirt with text. The post, dated February 26, 2025, has over 209.4K views.

Fact check

DFRAC investigation used the key frames of the viral video to reverse image search on Google Lens. The probe found that the leaked video shows Munshiganj District Jail Jailer Nur Mohammad Mridha with one of the prisoners’ wives.

Then, investigation found a detailed news report on Kalbela News (Bangladeshi news media outlet) on the issue published on 19 February 2025, 10:15 AM. “It is learned that the video is from March 2024. Nur Mohammad was on duty at Magura District Jail at that time. At that time, he got involved in an immoral relationship with a man’s wife. After the video went viral, the matter was reported to the district administration, district police department and district jail authorities. Later, when the matter was monitored, no visible action was taken”, the report said.
