Fact Check

To investigate the claim, DFRAC made keyword search and couldn’t find any latest news reports to back this false claim.

The keyword search led us to an index report by Institute for Economics & Peace. The index is called Global Terrorism Index 2024, released in February 2024.

We, then looked into the countries listed in the Global Terrorism Index. It features Pakistan at 4th rank, Syria at fifth, Afghanistan is at sixth, Myanmar at ninth, Iraq at eleventh, and India at 14th in the long list of index.

We looked into the methodology behind the Global Terrorism Index. It measures the impact of terrorism on various factors such as the total number of terrorist incidents in a given year, the total number of deaths caused by terrorist incidents, the total number of injuries caused by terrorist incidents, and the extent of property damage caused by terrorist incidents.

The report has mentioned that Pakistan has recorded a significant rise in terrorism over the years and further quoted that “Pakistan recorded the most incidents of any country, with 490 attacks recorded. The rise in deaths but fall in number of incidents shows how terrorism is becoming more concentrated and more lethal”.

Conclusion

The fact check by DFRAC shows the claim made on the viral post is fake. No such reports are availale online in the support of the above claim. The Global Terrorism Index report has shown Pakistan shares a top position among several countries.
