Fact Check

During the investigation, DFRAC found the claim to be false. We found multiple media reports regarding the viral news. According to a Livemint report published on January 22, 2025, “Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United) has denied snapping ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Manipur, minutes after its state unit chief sent a letter declaring the withdrawal of support from the BJP. In clarification, JD(U) national spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad denied the reports of JD(U) withdrawing support from the BJP-led government in Manipur as ‘baseless and misleading.’ The state unit chief, Kshetrimayum Biren Singh, has been relieved of his position as he ‘wrote the letter on his own.’ Rajeev Ranjan Prasad stated that the Manipur unit did not have any communication with the central leadership of JD(U) before sending the letter withdrawing support from the BJP.”
