The 2025 Delhi Legislative Assembly election for all 70 constituencies is scheduled to be held on 5 February 2025. Results will be declared on 8 February 2025
Amid this, news about Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has gone viral on social media. While sharing the news, users wrote, “Arvind Kejriwal is losing the election from New Delhi, so he is constantly making baseless allegations about the voter list and now he is talking about contesting from two seats.”
Fact Check
During the investigation, DFRAC found the claim to be false. We found a video on the official YouTube channel of the Aam Aadmi Party, uploaded on January 9, 2025. In this video, it can be heard that at the timestamp of 7:20, Kejriwal said he would contest from only one seat in the upcoming Delhi election.
Moreover, we found multiple media reports regarding the claim. According to News 18, published on January 9, 2025, “Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday rejected the BJP’s claims that he would contest the upcoming Delhi Assembly polls from two seats — New Delhi and another safer seat. ‘I will contest from only one seat,’ Kejriwal said while responding to a media query at a press conference.”
Furthermore, we also found a report from The New Indian Express, published on January 10, 2025, which states, “At a press conference on Thursday, Kejriwal said, ‘I am contesting from one seat only.’ He was replying to questions on Verma’s claims that he would be contesting from another seat besides New Delhi.”
Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC’s fact check that the claim about Arvind Kejriwal contesting from two seats is false. Arvind Kejriwal has confirmed that he will be contesting the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections from only one seat.
