Did the Indian forces kill 5 innocent youths in Kashmir?
On social media, a Pakistan-based account recently shared a viral claim stating, “Indian forces have martyred 5 innocent Kashmiri youth in Kulgam.
Fact Check
During the investigation, DFRAC found the claim to be false. According to an @ndtv report published on Dec 19, 2024, “Five terrorists were killed in an encounter in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Thursday. The operation started after security forces launched a search operation in the Kadder area following inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area. As terrorists opened fire on security forces, an encounter ensued.”
Furthermore, we also found a report from @htTweets published on Dec 19, 2024, stating, “5 terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Thursday, news agency PTI reported, citing officials. Two security personnel sustained injuries in the operation, the officials said.”
Moreover, we found a tweet from the official X handle of ‘Chinar Corps – Indian Army’ uploaded on December 19, 2024, with the caption: “OP KADER, Kulgam. Five terrorists have been neutralized by the security forces in the ongoing operation in Kader, Kulgam. During the firefight, two soldiers suffered injuries and have been evacuated for medical care.”
Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC’s fact check that the claim made in the viral post is false. The incident involved the neutralization of five terrorists, not the martyrdom of Kashmiri youth as claimed.
