Fact-Check: Fake claim alleging Bangladeshi tanks spotted going towards the Indian border goes viral

Some pak-based handles shared an image on social media platform X(formerly Twitter) showing some military tanks carrying military personnel and alleged that a large number of Bangladeshi tanks were spotted going towards the Indian border

An account with the name Ironclad shared this image and wrote: “Just in, large number of Bangladeshi tanks were spotted going towards the Indian border”

The account is known for spreading misinformation against India on X.

Furthermore, several pak-based handles also shared this image and made a similar claim. The preview link can be seen here and here.

Fact-Check

In the probe, the DFRAC team found that the above viral claim was fake. Moreover, the image was found on a different website.
We searched some keywords regarding the claim and found that no such reports supporting the claim were available online.
For further investigation, we reverse-searched the image shared with the claim using Google Lens and discovered it on a website with the caption: “Bangladesh Army’s MBT-2000 Victory Day 2012 parade”.

Additionally, other images showing the same military tanks are also available on this website.

Conclusion

It is clear from DFRAC’s fact-check that the claim alleging a large number of Bangladeshi tanks were spotted going towards the Indian border is fake since no reports or updates have been found in this regard
