On social media, a video of a debate from ‘R Bharat’ channel has gone viral. In this video it can be heard that a spokesperson from BJP said, In Karnataka, Congress will now give 4 percent reservation to Muslims in contracts or tenders as well. While sharing the video users wrote “In Karnataka, Congress will now give 4 percent reservation to Muslims in contracts or tenders, as well Siddaramaiah himself has signed the file. Don’t worry, neither Muslim League nor Jinnah is needed to break this country Both Congress and Rahul Gandhi are updated versions of Muslim League and Jinnah.”
Fact Check
During the investigation, DFRAC found that the claim was fake. We found multiple media reports regarding the 4% reservation. According to ‘Hindustan Times’ report published on 13 Nov, 2024 “There are no plans for having reservations for Muslim in jobs, the government said in a statement on Thursday in response to the allegations by the opposition that the Congress was planning to allocate 4% quota for Muslim contractors in public work projects valued up to ₹1 crore.”
Further, we also found a report from ‘Indian Express’ published on 14 Nov, 2024 stating “As the BJP launched an attack on the Congress government in Karnataka, charging that it was going to allocate 4% quota for Muslim contractors in public work projects up to Rs 1 crore, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah dismissed the row, asserting that the government does not have any such proposal although, he added, demands have been made in this regard.”
Conclusion
The viral claim that the Karnataka Congress government is implementing a 4% reservation for Muslims in contracts or tenders is fake. Both Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and official statements clarified that there is no proposal for such a reservation.
