A 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck Iran’s Semnan province on November 3 as Israel braces for another Iranian attack. Amid this, a video going viral shows trucks parked on the road shaking during an earthquake in a deserted area.
While sharing the video users wrote “JUST IN: Earthquakes in Iran as trucks shake on the side of the road and dust rises from the mountains. Nuke tests?”
Moreover, several users shared this video and made similar claims. The link can be seen here, here and here
Fact Check
During the investigation, DFRAC found that the claim was false. We found a similar video on the YouTube channel of ‘TRT worldnow’ uploaded on 14 Nov, 2021 with the description “Strong earthquake strikes southern Iran, killing at least one.”
Moreover, we found multiple media reports regarding the earthquake. According to ‘Al Jazeera’ report published on 14 Nov, 2021 “Two powerful earthquakes have hit southern Iran in quick succession, leaving at least one person dead and sending panicked residents rushing to the streets.”
Furthermore, we also found a media report from ‘CNN’ published on 15 Nov, 2021 stated “An earthquake shook Iran and in the images you can see the exact moment of the tremor. The U.S. geological service confirmed that it was 6.3 magnitude with a depth of 10 kilometers.”
Conclusion
It is evident from the DFRAC’s fact check that the viral video dates back to 2021, not from the recent earthquake in Iran. Therefore, the claim of social media users is misleading.
